ORLANDO - A late offensive charge called against Pine Castle Christian Academy sealed a 37-33 victory for Florida Air Academy in a Class 2A, Region 2 regional semifinal Tuesday night.
Last year's 3A state champs, Florida Air (16-8) moves on to the regional final Saturday against Jacksonville Arlington Country Day.
After blowing a 10-point lead after halftime, Florida Air coach Aubin Goporo was impressed with his team's toughness in a close fourth-quarter battle that included two lead changes. The Falcons' Jonathan Frazier hit a runner along the baseline to put them up 35-33 with 1:16 remaining. Florida Air held on to the lead from there as PCC missed two open 3s on its next two possessions.
Both teams finished with two players in double figures. Kory Pugh had 12 points and Eddie Piccinini 11 for PCC. Florida Air's Clark and Jason West each finished with 10.
After facing Florida Air for the fourth time this season, Rickman said one game doesn't define success.
"Hard work defines success, and we succeeded in that regard," he said.

Round four of the battle of defending state champions will be the last in the 2007-08 boys basketball season.
Defending 3A champion Florida Air (15-8) will travel today to Orlando for a Class 2A, Region 2 semifinal with defending 1A champion Pine Castle Christian (21-6). The 7 p.m. game has been moved from Pine Castle's gym to a larger facility at Lake Highland Prep because the host's gym did not meet the Florida High School Athletic Association minimum seating capacity for regionals.
Tonight's winner will face the winner of the Providence-Arlington Country Day semifinal at 7 p.m. Saturday for a spot in next week's state tournament at Lakeland. Arlington Country Day is the state's defending 2A champion.

DAYTONA BEACH - Florida Air Academy's boys basketball team never let a double-digit lead get it down during Thursday's Class 2A regional quarterfinals.
The Falcons' Jason West snagged a rebound with 29 seconds remaining and laid it up for two points, as Florida Air stunned state-ranked Father Lopez 76-75 in a game that seemed sealed up by the Green Wave in the third quarter.
Florida Air, which won the 2007 state title in 3A before moving to 2A this year, upped its record to 19-6, and will move on to Tuesday's regional semifinal game against Orlando Pine Castle Christian.

Florida Air Academy is investing in its future in a novel way, according to Todd DeRegnacourt, admissions director. The private military school recently opened a day care/preschool center for infants and preschool age children on campus.
According to DeRegnacourt, the center was the idea of James Dwight, the school’s president, “and plans are in place for a long-term goal of pre K through grade 12.” Until the preschool opened, the academy served male and female day and boarding students in grades 6 to 12.

MELBOURNE - If you happen to see a group of short-haired boys skate boarding, it might be the kids from Florida Air Academy, a private military and college preparatory school in Melbourne.
The students are there for the summer taking at least one academic credit and enjoying other, more enjoyable activities. This year, school officials added a skateboarding and surfing team.

WEST MELBOURNE - Wearing military dress blues and saluting her superiors,
Lacey Richardson quietly and confidently marched across the commencement stage.
Two years ago she was one of the first 10 girls accepted into Florida Air Academy. Friday afternoon, Richardson became one of the first nine young women to graduate from the private military boarding school at a special ceremony at Calvary Chapel in West Melbourne.
It was the first time females received diplomas in the school's
45-year history.
With 82 graduates, the commencement class also was the largest in
the school's history.
