Florida Air Academy graduate Andy Gonzalez was added to the Chicago White Sox's
roster Sunday after reserve shortstop Alex Cintron asked for bereavement leave to
care for his grandfather in Puerto Rico.
Gonzalez, who was hitting .333 with two homers and four RBIs in 36 at-bats for
Triple-A Charlotte this season, will be making his major-league debut. He was a
fifth-round draft pick by Chicago in 2001.
Gonzalez also played basketball at Florida Air, helping the Falcons win the
Class 3A state championship in 2001.
Cintron can miss up to a week under major-league rules but manager Ozzie Guillen
told reporters Cintron could return in three or four days. "Family, to me, is more
important than the game," Guillen said on the team's Web site. "I keep saying that every
time something happens to our ballclub."

[Note: On April 26, the White Sox reinstated infielder
Alex Cintron from the bereavement list and returned Andy back to
Charlotte of the International League (AAA). But on May 12th, Andy was again added to the Chicago White Sox to replace Cintron who was once again placed on bereavement leave.]
