ORLANDO - A late offensive charge called against Pine Castle Christian Academy sealed a 37-33 victory for Florida Air Academy in a Class 2A, Region 2 regional semifinal Tuesday night.

The game was played at Lake Highland Prep to accommodate the large crowd, which was on its feet for the final and deciding play of the game.

Down by two points with five seconds remaining, PCC inbounded the ball from half-court.

The play went as designed as Thomas Austin took the handoff from LaSalle Cooks beyond the 3-point arc. But, Austin's momentum forced a charge as he collided with Florida Air's Reggie Clark.

Austin was called for a technical foul for his verbal emotions following the play. The Falcon faithful erupted as Clark made the ensuing two free throws. Clark chucked the ball in the air after taking the ball in for the last two seconds.

Last year's 3A state champs, Florida Air (16-8) moves on to the regional final Saturday against Jacksonville Arlington Country Day.

PCC (21-7), ranked fourth in the state in 2A, fell short after winning the 1A state championship last year and beating Florida Air in this year's District 8 final.

After blowing a 10-point lead after halftime, Florida Air coach Aubin Goporo was impressed with his team's toughness in a close fourth-quarter battle that included two lead changes. The Falcons' Jonathan Frazier hit a runner along the baseline to put them up 35-33 with 1:16 remaining. Florida Air held on to the lead from there as PCC missed two open 3s on its next two possessions.

PCC coach Mark Rickman did not comment on the offensive charge call, but did describe the design of the final play.

"We had three different options set up with the play," Rickman said. "One option broke open on a cut to the basket away from the ball, but the charge had already been called."

Both teams finished with two players in double figures. Kory Pugh had 12 points and Eddie Piccinini 11 for PCC. Florida Air's Clark and Jason West each finished with 10.

Goporo said his team will work on attacking the paint for the regional final matchup.

"We really weren't moving around enough," Goporo said. "The spread offense worked tonight, but we'll need to make more cuts to the basket next game."

After facing Florida Air for the fourth time this season, Rickman said one game doesn't define success.

"Hard work defines success, and we succeeded in that regard," he said.
