ACCOUNTING: Parents of Seniors: Accounting will be open next week from 8-5 Wed and Thurs and on Friday 8-6. Official diplomas will only be issued by the Academy Controller, Mr. Barry Fredianelli out of his office in Dwight Hall following the Commencement Ceremony. Each graduate will need to have been processed out on Friday for uniform turn-in and room check by their Tactical Officer prior to final check-out in accounting. However, in order to avoid waiting in long lines during this time, parents are strongly encouraged to meet all financial obligations prior to that time by checking through Accounting between 8-5 Wed and Thur and 8-6 on Friday. As a reminder, the Academy requires a $200. escrow balance to cover any late charges that may be incurred. All monies remaining in your account will, of course, be returned to you within one month of this date.
ADMISSIONS:
If you have not
submitted your deposit for fall and/or summer please contact the admissions
office ASAP in order to secure your position in the 2008/2009 school year.
OPEN HOUSE Sunday, May 18th at 1:00 pm, for prospective families. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! We get many of our best students through
personal referrals from our current families.
Contact Admissions 321-723-3211 ext
30040 or request@flair.com or admissionwebsite@flair.com. Spread the word about the excellent teachers, small classes
and leadership/character development that cadets at FAA receive!
ON-LINE RE-ENROLLMENT!
There is a significant improvement to the way parents
complete the re-enrollment process. Lengthy amounts of paperwork and tedious
notarizing are a thing of the past.
Parents will fill out a one page
"online agreement form" that requires their notarized signature and submit this form along with the
$2600 deposit to Admissions.
Once these items are received, an on-line
access code will be emailed shortly thereafter.
Once parents receive the access code they will be able to complete the enrollment agreement and
transition kit at their own computer in the comfort of their own home.
For parents of underclassmen, this
data will be saved and when parents go to re-enroll the following year, their
electronic forms will be available with pre-populated data. This is just
another example of FAA's commitment to providing better customer service and
cutting edge technology.

GUIDANCE:
1. "Class
of 2008" Information:
A.
The Guidance
Staff will meet with all Seniors this week to make their annual "Off to
College" presentation. During this
meeting, a number of college-related topics such as transition to college life;
time management; balancing study, fun, and enrichment opportunities; choice of
friends; and other matters critical to college success will be discussed.
B. As graduation nears, Seniors and their parents
should pay close attention to the deadlines for college
deposits which are the fees necessary to hold a space for your son
or daughter in the college/university of his/her choice once he or she has been
accepted. Information about the amount of these deposits and submission
deadlines is found on the student's "letter of acceptance".
We wish the "Class of
2008" the best of luck with their exams and continued happiness and
success as they embark on the next leg of their
journey through life. We also
want our Seniors to know that they will be always be important members of the
FAA family and that we will be here for them should they ever need us again.
2.
If your son
or daughter failed a course here at FAA for the first semester, please
encourage him or her to make greater effort for the second semester in order to
earn the full year's credit. FAA grading
policy states that a student failing a subject for the first semester can still
earn the full year's credit if the first and second semester average is 60% or
greater. This policy exists to motivate
students to work harder during the second semester with the possibility of
passing a subject for the year and earning a full credit. This is particularly critical in the case of
core courses and may prevent the need for summer school or perhaps even
repeating the grade. This policy does not
apply to students who pass the first semester and fail the second semester
(only 1/2 credit is earned) or those students who have failed a course in
another school for the first semester.
Note: Semester exams count for 20% of the
entire second semester grade and are critical to the success or failure of our
students, some more than others. Please
encourage your son or daughter to pay
close attention to the exam reviews given by each teacher the week before exams
and to begin preparing for the exams now and not the night before they're
given.
CADET CORNER:
College

Ariel

acceptance to Lewis University.
Nathaniel
Gibbs for his
acceptance to Middle Tennessee State University.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS:
A
reminder that Florida Air academy offers all of its after school programs
during summer school-Flight, SCUBA, driver's education and martial arts.
Discuss these programs with your child so that they can get the most out of
their summer. Any
questions concerning FAA special programs can be directed to John Hudacek at
jhudacek@flair.com.
SURF & SKATE CLUB:
We will be renting
out the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon from 6:00 am till 9:00 am Saturday May 24th. I will bring a maximum of nine
surfers. The cost with 9 surfers will be $117 per cadet. This will be the total
cost for the trip and the limit as to what I will bring per cadet. It will be
the responsibility of each cadet to bring any additional money. There is also a
planned FAA trip to the Typhoon Lagoon water park that same day. If your
student would like to attend they may do so, but there will be an additional
charge and they will need to contact Coach Kulac. Cadets who do not wish to
stay can return to FAA with me. Any day students attending may drive themselves
and need to provide two contact phone #’s as well as email correspondence
stating you are aware they will be providing their own transportation. Boarding
students are prohibited to travel to or from the park by any means other than
FAA or parent/guardian.
We can have up to 25
people in the park. So parents are welcome to come and watch. If you would like
attend with your child please let me know and I will contact you to get
additional information to you. Surfers will be responsible to bring their own
boards and equipment (we will not be able to rent). Leashes must be worn and a
lifeguard will be present.
Spots will be held only
after I receive the following items. I will not be accepting any waivers or
emails to confirm a spot after 5/16/08.
· Signed waiver. This
does not need to be notarized (fax, mail, or scanned and emailed)
· Emailed consent to
deduct $117 from cadet bank account (I will have to pay cash at the gate).
Copies of the receipt will be taken to accounting.
For more information
please contact Surf/Skate Coach, Jay Gideon at ext 30011
TECHNOLOGY:
In reference to incoming calls:
Please note that all incoming
phone calls for cadets go directly to voice mail. To leave a message
for your child, you would call the school at (321) 723-3211 and enter their extension
number. The extension number for your child will be the last four numbers
of their student number preceded by the number 2 (2xxxx).
Example student number to be 10375,
therefore their telephone extension number will be 20375.
Your child will then return your call during the times authorized by the
Commandant's Department.
In reference to you student's email
services:
Effective this school year, FAA
no longer provides students with individual email accounts; this was primarily
due to non-use by the students. Your child may continue to use their
personal private email address. Should they not have one, they can subscribe to
many of the free email providers such as gmail.com, hotmail.com and yahoo.com.
