ADMISSIONS:
Re-Enrollment
discount deadlines have now passed. If you have not submitted your deposit for fall
and/or summer please contact the admissions office ASAP in order to secure your
position in the 2008/2009 school year.
OPEN HOUSE Sunday, May 4th at 1:00 pm, for prospective families. You’ve seen the benefits that FAA
offers---invite your friends. Contact Admissions 321-723-3211 ext
30040 or request@flair.com or admissionwebsite@flair.com. Spread the word about the excellent teachers, small classes
and leadership/character development that cadets at FAA receive!
ON-LINE RE-ENROLLMENT!
There is a significant improvement to the way parents
complete the re-enrollment process. Lengthy amounts of paperwork and tedious
notarizing are a thing of the past. Parents will fill out a one page
"online agreement form" that requires their notarized signature and submit this form along with the
$2600 deposit to Admissions. Once these items are received, an on-line access
code will be emailed shortly thereafter.
Once parents receive the access code they will be able to complete the enrollment agreement and
transition kit at their own computer in the comfort of their own home.
For parents of underclassmen, this
data will be saved and when parents go to re-enroll the following year, their
electronic forms will be available with pre-populated data. This is just
another example of FAA's commitment to providing better customer service and
cutting edge technology.

CADET CORNER:
On Wednesday, April 30th FBLA
members will have the opportunity to take a tour of Symetrics here in Melbourne. Thank you to Mr. McKegg who helped make this
tour possible!
Every
year FAA helps the environment by keeping thousands of phonebooks out of the
landfill. FBLA participates in a county wide
competition to collect the most phonebooks.
Please help us by sending in your old or new phonebooks with your
student. Students can bring them to the
teacher workroom, guidance office or to Mrs. Baudek's classroom. In addition, everyone can do their part by
recycling at home as many cities no longer require you to separate recyclable
items. Thank you for your support and
please recycle!
If your
son or daughter is interested in becoming a member of Future Business Leaders
of America (FBLA) please have them speak with Mrs. Baudek

GUIDANCE:
1.
If your son
or daughter failed a course here at FAA for the first semester, please
encourage him or her to make greater effort for the second semester in order to
earn the full year's credit. FAA grading
policy states that a student failing a subject for the first semester can still
earn the full year's credit if the first and second semester average is 60% or
greater. This policy exists to motivate
students to work harder during the second semester with the possibility of
passing a subject for the year and earning a full credit. This is particularly critical in the case of
core courses and may prevent the need for summer school or perhaps even
repeating the grade. This policy does not
apply to students who pass the first semester and fail the second semester
(only 1/2 credit is earned) or those students who have failed a course in
another school for the first semester.
Note: Semester exams count for 20% of the
entire second semester grade and are critical to the success or failure of our
students, some more than others. Please
encourage your son or daughter to pay
close attention to the exam reviews given by each teacher the week before exams
and to begin preparing for the exams now and not the night before they're
given.
2. "Class
of 2008" Information:
A. Seniors continue to be encouraged to visit
their college counselor to follow up on applications to those colleges from
which they've received little or no communication recently. We ask parents to
assist us in this endeavor by reminding their son or daughter to visit his/her
college counselor in Phelps Hall as often as necessary. Graduation is rapidly approaching!
B. Seniors and their parents who
haven't done so already, should complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at: (www.fafsa.ed.gov).
and register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.NCAAClearinghouse.net
and Florida Bright Futures Scholarships @
www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.
C. Seniors and their parents should pay close attention
to the deadlines for college deposits which
are the fees necessary to hold a space for your son or daughter in the
college/university of his/her choice once he or she has been accepted.
Information about the amount of these deposits and submission deadlines is
found on the student's "letter of acceptance".
D. Parents of International Seniors are
advised that nearly all U.S. colleges and universities require both an
"Affidavit of Support" and a notarized bank letter as a major part of
their admission process. Many of these forms are available on the
colleges'/universities' websites under "International Admissions".
Contact your son's or daughter's counselor if you need assistance with this
critical college admission related item.
Reminder: Acceptance
to a college or university is a Florida Air Academy graduation requirement.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS:
There is
a fun dive at Pompano Beach scheduled for Saturday/Sunday, April 26/27.
This overnight trip will include 4 dives and is open to all certified divers.
Please contact John Hudacek with your written approval, jhudacek@flair.com.
Although
the flight and SCUBA programs are open entry classes, after spring break there
is not enough time remaining in the school year to guarantee completion.
Therefore, please wait to apply for these two programs until summer school or
Fall of '08.
TECHNOLOGY:
In reference to incoming calls:
Please note that all incoming
phone calls for cadets go directly to voice mail. To leave a message
for your child, you would call the school at (321) 723-3211 and enter their extension
number. The extension number for your child will be the last four numbers
of their student number preceded by the number 2 (2xxxx).
Example student number to be 10375,
therefore their telephone extension number will be 20375.
Your child will then return your call during the times authorized by the
Commandant's Department.
In reference to you student's email
services:
Effective this school year, FAA
no longer provides students with individual email accounts; this was primarily
due to non-use by the students. Your child may continue to use their
personal private email address. Should they not have one, they can subscribe to
many of the free email providers such as gmail.com, hotmail.com and yahoo.com.
Please
feel free to contact us again if we can help in any way at technology@flair.com .
