ON-LINE RE-ENROLLMENT!

We are continuing to re-enroll students for Fall 2008. There will be a significant improvement to the way parents complete the re-enrollment process. Lengthy amounts of paperwork and tedious notarizing will become a thing of the past. Parents will fill out a one page permission form, and then receive an on-line access code in the next couple of weeks. Once they receive the access code parents will be able to complete the enrollment agreement and transition kit at their own computer in the comfort of their own home.

For parents of underclassmen, this data will be saved and when parents go to re-enroll the following year, their electronic forms will be available with pre-populated data. This is just another example of FAA's commitment to providing better customer service and cutting edge technology.

We are now accepting applications for our Summer Session 2008! Make this summer a fun AND productive time for your child!

The New Florida Air Academy Preschool still has room for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. If you know of anyone who is looking for a caring community for their child to learn have them call the Admissions Office at 723-3211, ext. 30012. Snacks and hot meals provided!

COMMANDANT:   F.A.A. has made changes to its discipline system, to more fairly reflect the nature of the offense.  Previously, minor infractions could result in a full, three-day weekend restriction.  Under the new system, restrictions are now issued in several levels.  These levels are "A", (Friday restriction only), "B" (Friday and Saturday restriction), and "C" (Fri., Sat. and Sunday).  For more information on the new system, look on the FAA website (www.flair.com, "Our Cadet Corps---Discipline.) We appreciate your patience as we work out the details of this new, improved system.

GUIDANCE:

1.  The Academic Assistance Program for the 3rd marking period is currently in progress for those students who earned a D and an F or worse or 3 D's or worse on their 3rd quarter report card.  This means that they:

A.  Will be required to attend both weekend study halls

B.  Will be required to attend after-school teacher help in those subjects in which they earned a D or an F

C.  Will attend evening study hall in the Dining Room under the close supervision of a tactical officer with tutors available

D.  Will have their allowances reduced to $5.00 per week.

Cadets will continue in this program until the next printed progress report (4 weeks) or until all of their grades have improved to C or better.

2.  If your son or daughter failed a course here at FAA for the first semester, please encourage him or her to make greater effort for the second semester in order to earn the full year's credit.  FAA grading policy states that a student failing a subject for the first semester can still earn the full year's credit if the first and second semester average is 60% or greater.  This policy exists to motivate students to work harder during the second semester with the possibility of passing a subject for the year and earning a full credit.  This is particularly critical in the case of core courses and may prevent the need for summer school or perhaps even repeating the grade.  This policy does not apply to students who pass the first semester and fail the second semester (only 1/2 credit is earned) or those students who have failed a course in another school for the first semester.

3. "Class of 2008" Information:

A. Seniors continue to be encouraged to visit their college counselor to follow up on applications to those colleges from which they've received little or no communication recently. We ask parents to assist us in this endeavor by reminding their son or daughter to visit his/her college counselor in Phelps Hall as often as necessary.  Graduation is rapidly approaching!

B. Seniors and their parents should have already completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at: (www.fafsa.ed.gov). and registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.NCAAClearinghouse.net and Florida Bright Futures Scholarships @

www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.

C. Seniors and their parents should pay close attention to the deadlines for college deposits which are the fees necessary to hold a space for your son or daughter in the college/university of his/her choice once he or she has been accepted. Information about the amount of these deposits and submission deadlines is found on the student's "letter of acceptance".

D. Parents of International Seniors are advised that nearly all U.S. colleges and universities require both an "Affidavit of Support" and a notarized bank letter as a major part of their admission process. Many of these forms are available on the colleges'/universities' websites under "International Admissions". Contact your son's or daughter's counselor if you need assistance with this critical college admission related item.

Reminder: Acceptance to a college or university is a Florida Air Academy graduation requirement.

5. Service Academy Summer Seminars Application deadlines for all summer seminars are now passed.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS:

Although the flight and SCUBA programs are open entry classes, after spring break concludes there will not be enough time remaining in the school year to guarantee completion. Therefore, please wait applying for these two programs until summer school of Fall of '08.

TECHNOLOGY:

In reference to incoming calls:

Please note that all incoming phone calls for cadets go directly to voice mail. To leave a message for your child, you would call the school at (321) 723-3211 and enter their extension number. The extension number for your child will be the last four numbers of their student number preceded by the number 2 (2xxxx). Example student number to be 10375, therefore their telephone extension number will be 20375. Your child will then return your call during the times authorized by the Commandant's Department.

In reference to you student's email services:

Effective this school year, FAA no longer provides students with individual email accounts; this was primarily due to non-use by the students. Your child may continue to use their personal private email address. Should they not have one, they can subscribe to many of the free email providers such as gmail.com, hotmail.com and yahoo.com.

Please feel free to contact us again if we can help in any way at technology@flair.com .
