It’s Holiday Cookie Party Time! (This is an annual event that the cadets really look forward to!  There is a tree decorating contest among the squadrons, holiday music, and parents send in homemade cookies for the cadets to enjoy!  Please send in  two dozen of your family's favorites next Thursday!  Parents may stop by the Hall of Flags after 3:45 that day (when the crowds of hungry cadets has lessened) to view the trees, or anytime after that.  They will be up through the winter holidays….)

This coming Thurs. through Sunday Richard Dexheimer will practice and perform as part of the Florida State “Tri-State Band Festival.” This honor he achieved through a recommendation from the D&B Director as well as a music audition which he prepared and performed this past October. Richard will take part in rehearsals over the next few days in preparation for a command performance on Sunday. Richard is the D&B Corps percussion section leader and has been working to become a multi percussion performer. He also performs with the Brevard Youth Symphony Orchestra where he can be found performing on tympani, mallet percussion, snare drum and other auxiliary percussion. Richard will have the experience of working under the baton of composer conductor James Curnow, a major leader in band performance and band repertoire.

The football team finished up a very successful season with their first trip in recent history to the playoffs. Three of our student-athletes have been selected to play in the Brevard County All-Star game. David Levy, Tony Walding and Alex Grossman will represent Florida Air on December 20th @ MCC, 7:00. In addition Tony Walding and Alex Grossman have made the Central Florida All-Star team. That includes schools from across the state including Tampa and Orlando. They will play ay Lake Brantley High School December 20th, 7:00. Congrats to Coach Rodrick Lawson and his coaches and team!!  Rodrick has also been selected as a coach for the ALL-STAR team, the only coach in Brevard county to be chosen!!

GUIDANCE

1. Any parent interested in obtaining tutoring for their son or daughter, may contact Mrs. Lisa Gray at lgray@flair.com or your son's/daughter's guidance counselor listed below. There is an additional fee for this tutoring service.

"Class of 2008" Information:

2A. Seniors should be fully aware of college application deadlines as some are as early as December 1st. B. Seniors and their parents should begin reviewing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website (www.fafsa.ed.gov) to ensure that they have the necessary documentation prior to the January 1st, 2008, opening date for submission. (A handout was given to each Senior with FAFSA information). C. Seniors interested in applying to the Service Academies or for ROTC scholarships are reminded that time is very short and to report to Guidance for assistance with this lengthy process. D. Seniors are also reminded to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse @ NCAAClearinghouse.net and Florida Bright Futures Scholarships @ www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org. E. Finally, Seniors are constantly reminded not to procrastinate with their college application process. A number of Seniors have already submitted numerous college applications and are anxiously awaiting word from the colleges and universities to which they applied.

3. On a related topic, parents are once again encouraged to contact their son's/daughter's guidance counselor regarding the college application/admission process. Our Seniors have been advised to begin writing their college essays; to procure 2 to 3 letters of recommendation; to compile their high school resumes; to sign up for additional standardized testing, (i.e., ACT, TOEFL, SAT re-test); to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse; to investigate scholarship opportunities and sources; and most of all, to maintain or improve their grades and not procrastinate with their college application material. Parents: Please speak to your son or daughter about this important process and encourage them to complete the college application process.

Reminder: Acceptance to a college or university is a Florida Air Academy graduation requirement.

4. An additional computer has been set up in the Guidance Office for Seniors who are either having trouble accessing college websites due to the Academy's firewall or need counselor assistance in submitting their college applications on-line. This computer is available to Seniors during their lunch periods, after school, or during non-core course periods with prior teacher approval.

5. Seniors who feel that their current SAT or ACT scores are not indicative of their true academic ability have been encouraged to register for subsequent testing. Time is growing short to take either of these tests and being able to submit the scores to selected colleges and universities. Registration information and forms are available in the Guidance Office.
