Football Team:

The Falcons are headed off to Tallahassee for a Friday night (7:30pm) game with North Florida Christain School.  If you are in the area and can make it, this will be an exciting and important game for all.  Join the excitement on the bleachers!

Holiday Travel:

Friday, November 16, our airport shuttles will begin taking cadets to the airport – there will be no accommodations made for earlier departures:

You should be aware that check-out days are also test days.  If your child misses the morning classes that day, he or she will receive a grade of zero for those classes, and the absence will be unexcused.  In addition to the unexcused absence, you will be responsible for booking some form of airport transportation other than the FAA shuttle.  Our transportation will not be available to those leaving before the approved check-out dates and/or times.

GUIDANCE

1.   Honors/AP Policy: Should any student receive a D or F in his/her Honors or AP class at any printed report (i.e. report card or progress report), he/she has until the next printed report (i.e., 4/5 weeks) to improve that grade to a C or better. Should that improvement not occur, the student is then transferred to the non-Honors/AP section of that class. With this change, the student's grade in the regular class improves one letter grade due to the accelerated pace and increased workload he/she had experienced in the Honors/AP class.

2.  Any parent interested in obtaining tutoring for their son or daughter, may contact Mrs. Lisa Gray at lgray@flair.com or your son's/daughter's guidance counselor listed below. There is an additional fee for this tutoring service.

"Class of 2008" Information:

The Guidance staff once again met with our Seniors to remind them of the following: 1. The Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to visit colleges close to their home.  Many colleges are in session Monday through Wednesday.  Seniors should call the colleges which they would like to visit for an appointment.  2.  This break is a good time to assess and evaluate the current status of each Senior's  college application efforts and to complete necessary application components such as college essays and high school resumes.   3. Seniors should be fully aware of college application deadlines.  4.  Seniors and their parents should begin reviewing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website to ensure that they have the necessary documentation prior to the January 1st, 2008, opening date for submission.  (A handout was given to each Senior with FAFSA information).  5.  Seniors interested in applying to the Service Academies or for ROTC scholarships were reminded that time is very short and to report to Guidance for assistance with the lengthy process.  6. Seniors were also reminded to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse @ NCAAClearinghouse.net and Florida Bright Futures Scholarships @ www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.   7.  Finally, Seniors were reminded not to procrastinate with their college application process and that the Thanksgiving break was also a good time to sit down with their parents and finalize college application choices.

3.  On a related topic, parents are strongly encouraged to contact their son's/daughter's guidance counselor regarding the college application/admission process. Our Seniors have been advised to begin writing their college essays; to procure 2 to 3 letters of recommendation; to compile their high school resumes; to sign up for additional standardized testing, (i.e., ACT, TOEFL, SAT re-test); to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse; to investigate scholarship opportunities and sources; and most of all, to maintain or improve their grades and not procrastinate with their college application material. Parents, please speak to your cadets about this important process and encourage them to complete these tasks!

4. An additional computer has been set up in the Guidance Office for Seniors who are either having trouble accessing college websites due to the Academy's firewall or need assistance in submitting their college applications on-line.

5. Seniors who feel that their current SAT or ACT scores are not indicative of their true academic ability have been encouraged to register for subsequent testing. Registration information and forms are available in the Guidance Office.
