GUIDANCE
1. The Academic Assistance Program will resume this week for those students who have earned a D and an F or worse or 3 D's or worse on their first quarter report card. This means that they:
A. Will be required to attend both weekend study halls.
B. Will be required to attend after-school teacher help in those subjects in which they earned a D or F.
C. Will be required to attend evening study hall in the Dining Hall under the close supervision of a tactical officer and with tutors in attendance.
D. Will have their allowances reduced to $5.00 per week. These cadets will continue in this program until the next printed progress report is reviewed (in 4 weeks) or all their grades have improved to C's or better.
2. Honors/AP Policy: Should any student receive a D or F in his/her Honors or AP class at any printed report (i.e. report card or progress report), he/she has until the next printed report (i.e., 4/5 weeks) to improve that grade to a C or better. Should that improvement not occur, the student is then transferred to the non-Honors/AP section of that class. With this change, the student's grade in the regular class improves one letter grade due to the accelerated pace and increased workload he/she had experienced in the Honors/AP class.
3. Any parent interested in obtaining tutoring for their son or daughter, may contact Mrs. Lisa Gray at lgray@flair.com or your son's/daughter's guidance counselor listed below. There is an additional fee for this tutoring service.
"Class of 2008" Information:
4. Parents are strongly encouraged to contact their son's/daughter's guidance counselor regarding the college application/admission process. Our Seniors have been advised to begin writing their college essays; to procure 2 to 3 letters of recommendation; to compile their high school resumes; to sign up for additional standardized testing, (i.e., ACT, TOEFL, SAT re-test); to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse; to investigate scholarship opportunities and sources; and most of all, to maintain or improve their grades and not procrastinate with their college application material. Parents, please speak to your cadets about this important process and encourage them to complete these tasks!
5. College Night, held last week, was a big success for all of our Seniors
and many of our Juniors as they had the opportunity to visit with admissions
representatives from nearly 100 colleges located in
6. Guidance Counselors once again met with our Seniors
this week to outline the college application submission information and to
distribute pertinent information contained in such publications as "For
Seniors Only", "Colleges and Careers", and the
7. An additional computer has been set up in the Guidance Office for Seniors who are either having trouble accessing college websites due to the Academy's firewall or need assistance in submitting their college applications on-line.
