GUIDANCE

Friday, September 21st, is the cut-off date for the first printed academic progress report for the 2007-08 school year. At this time, all students with a "D" and an "F," or 3 "D's" or worse will be placed in our Academic Assistance Program. This effective program is designed to motivate and assist students who are having difficulty in their scholastic pursuits.

The Academic Assistance Program means that each student:

· Must attend after-school teacher help in those subjects in which he or she has earned a D or F.

· Must attend both weekend study halls, Friday evening and Saturday morning.

· Must attend evening study hall in the dining room under the supervision of a Tactical Officer and with tutors available.

· Will have his or her allowance cut to $5.00 per week.

This program will continue until the next printed academic report which will be report card # 1 with a cut-off date of October 26th.

Any parent interested in obtaining tutoring, in addition to the already existing after-school teacher help, may contact Mrs. Lisa Gary at lgray@flair.com or your son's/daughter's guidance counselor listed below. There is an additional fee for this tutoring service.

Parents are strongly encouraged to contact their son's/daughter's guidance counselor regarding the college application/admission process. Our Seniors have been advised to begin writing their college essays; to procure 2/3 letters of recommendation; to compile their high school resumes; to sign up for additional standardized testing, (i.e., ACT,TOEFL, SAT re-test); to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse; to investigate scholarship opportunities and sources; and most of all, to maintain or improve their grades and not procrastinate with their college application material.  Parents, please speak to your cadets about this important process and encourage them to complete these tasks!
