There
will be no shuttle buses this weekend as it is a closed campus, so students may
prepare for their final exams next week.
This
Monday, Memorial Day, is a regular class day.
We have class on this day for two reasons: first, this is the last review day before
final exams, and secondly, it enables us to have a full week off at
Thanksgiving. We appreciate your
understanding.
Congratulations to the Class of 2007! Stay
in touch and let us know what you are doing by joining our Alumni database.
It’s easy, just e-mail us your new e-mail address or
change of physical address.
JUNIOR HIGH DANCE:
Is this Saturday night from 7:00 until 10:00 in the school gymnasium. The theme is "New York Nights." All students in grades 6-8 are invited to attend. Tickets are $5.00 and will be sold at the door. Dress is casual and must be appropriate (ie. no very short skirts, low-cut blouses, exposed midriff, etc.) Any parents of junior high students who are interested in chaperoning or providing drinks or snacks, please contact Assistant Principal Melissa Alton at malton@flair.com
Admissions:
As alumni, parents and cadets know, FAA is the best choice for a high school education. If you refer a student to us and your potential cadet enrolls in the Academy and completes one semester, you are eligible to earn a gift card from Best Buy. Visit our website at www.flair.com and click on 'Refer a cadet' on the home page. The web site is simple and easy to navigate. Make a difference in a young person’s life!
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT F.A.A.'S EXCITING SUMMER PROGRAM?
We offer a six-week, non-military program that combines academic credit with lots of fun and activities. What is your child doing this summer? He/she can take a class to get ahead, improve computer skills, or strengthen skills in a particular area.
We are offering a special opportunity for qualified 7-9th graders: take an honors level Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 class this summer. Taking an honors course will enable these students to take the most advanced math courses available by their senior year. This is a huge plus in the college admissions process! (Older students may take Geometry or Algebra 2 this summer also.) For more information, call the Admissions Dept.

Teacher’s Corner:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the phonebook recycling competition. We earned fourth place in the county and helped keep more than 500 phonebooks out of our landfill.
Congratulations to:
For the second year in a row, our Assistant Principal and English 4 instructor, Mrs. Melissa Alton, has been appointed to serve as an essay reader for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Literature and Composition exam. Reader positions are granted only to highly qualified instructors, and FAA is excited that one of our own has been selected for an appointment.
Ms. Carrie
Lund, Middle School English Instructor has been selected to work with the
A.C.L.E. (Associazione Culturale Linguistica Educational) teaching English
language as a full immersion experience for Italian children in various cities

Mrs. Linda Messenger passed her AP Audit in English Language and Literature.
Mrs. Ana Thomas passed her AP Audit for Spanish Language.
This earns both teachers the official Seal of Approval from the College Board. Their courses passed a rigorous review by college and university faculty, and found to meet or exceed expectations. This is a tremendous achievement.

Guidance:
1. Parents are reminded that second semester grades (as were the first semester grades) are weighted in the following manner:
3rd quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade
4th quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade
Semester Exam = 20% of entire second semester grade
As you can see, the semester exams could mean the difference in passing or failing a course for the year.
All teachers provide a very thorough review of exam material just prior to exam week. Please encourage your son/daughter to take full advantage of these reviews and to see their teachers for after-school help should additional assistance be necessary.
2. The Middle School promotion policy is as follows:
Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 must pass all of their core courses (i.e., English, Language Arts, Math, Science, and History) for the school year in order to be promoted to the next grade. Failure to pass one of more of these core courses will result in the need for Summer School attendance or repeating the current grade.
3. Final Summer School Letters: Immediately following the end of school on June 1st (June 2nd for Middle School students), a final review of all transcripts will me made by Guidance personnel. Letters indicating failure in core courses, shortage of credits toward graduation, and other academic shortcomings will be noted. Letters specifying these deficiencies will be mailed home beginning the week of June 4th. These will be a follow-up to the letters mailed to parents in late February after our first semester review of student transcripts.
4. As we have throughout the school year, we continue to strongly encourage our soon-to-be Seniors to either begin or continue preparation for the SAT (required for all our Seniors in October) over the Summer. This is an ideal time to purchase and review, at a leisurely pace, an SAT/ACT preparation book available at a reasonable cost at most book outlets, (e.g., Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, etc.)
5. Upcoming Tests:
SAT: June 2: Standby registration only available at this time. (Last SAT of this school year.)
ACT: June 9: Standby registration only available at this time. (Last ACT of this school year.)
