IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Day Students:  There will be no afternoon bus service for day students this Friday, May 18 due to F.A.A.'s Senior Graduation at 4:00 p.m.  Day students will attend the ceremony (it is an excellent motivational experience for underclassmen to see this historic and inspiring event) with the rest of the school.  Parents, please arrange to pick up your child at the school at approximately 5:45 pm. that day (call the school for an exact time).  Parents are also welcome to attend the Graduation ceremony, which will be held at Calvary Chapel Church in West Melbourne.

Boarding Students:  There will be no weekend shuttles running this weekend.  All students will attend the F.A. A. Graduation ceremony at 4:00 on Friday.  For parents who wish to pick up their students for home leave, they may be picked up at the school at approximately 5:45 pm.  Parents are welcome to attend the graduation ceremony.

Admissions Open House Sunday, May 20, 12:00 noon    For re-enrollment and prospective parents/cadets. We will be located in the Dining Hall. If you have any friends or relatives with children who might be a good addition to the cadet corps of FAA, please invite them to  this!  Enroll now for the fall and our 6 week summer program!

As alumni, parents and cadets know,  FAA is the best choice for a high school education.  If you refer a student to us and your potential cadet enrolls in the Academy and completes one semester, you are eligible to earn a gift card from Best Buy. Visit our website at www.flair.com and click on 'Refer a cadet' on the home page. The web site is simple and easy to navigate. Make a difference in a young person’s life!

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT F.A.A.'S EXCITING SUMMER PROGRAM?

We offer a six-week, non-military program that combines academic credit with lots of fun and activities. What is your child doing this summer? He/she can take a class to get ahead, improve computer skills, or strengthen skills in a particular area.

We are offering a special opportunity for qualified 7-9th graders: take an honors level Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 class this summer. Taking an honors course will enable these students to take the most advanced math courses available by their senior year. This is a huge plus in the college admissions process! (Older students may take Geometry or Algebra 2 this summer also.)  For more information, call the Admissions Dept.

Cadet Corner:

Congratulations to:

Nick Campbell,  who passed his commercial pilot's license test, something that has not been accomplished at FAA in at least 10 years!  Most people don't know what this entails, so here is a quick synopsis on why this is so significant:

1. It allows the pilot to work for hire, as opposed to a private license that can only be used for personal use.

2. The prerequisite hours for this license are 250 hours, as opposed to the 40 needed for private.

3. It involves using a more complex aircraft than that used in private pilot training.

Since Nick is graduating soon please congratulate him on his achievement when you see him!

Drum & Bugle Corps

You heard them on Falcon Field and they were outstanding! Be a part of this special group and sign up for the Drum & Bugle Corps Summer Camp August 22 26, 2007.

FAA P.A.

Teacher Appreciation was a tremendous success! Thank you to all the parents who spoke their praises loudly with their generous donations!

The teachers’ workroom was filled with enough food to host a banquet! The teachers were thrilled everyday as they gathered to see what each new day held! They had coffee, bagels, donuts, egg soufflé, fruits, cheese, biscotti and fresh flowers always! On Friday they were treated to a well deserved fully catered Italian meal from Micelis Restaurant.

Each day was concluded with a gift basket give-a-way and at the close of the weeklong celebration every teacher received a gift card from a local merchant!

Thank you to all the parents who were very generous! This couldn't happen without you! FAA Teachers are the best and so are the FAA Parents!

Guidance:

Parents are reminded that second semester grades (as were the first semester grades) are weighted in the following manner:

3rd quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade

4th quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade

Semester Exam = 20% of second semester grade

As you can see, the semester exams during the last week of classes could mean the difference in passing or failing a course for the year.

All teachers provide a very thorough review of exam material just prior to exam week. Please encourage your son/daughter to take full advantage of these reviews and to see their teachers for after-school help should more assistance be necessary.

Upcoming Tests:

SAT: June 2: Regular registration available through April 27th.
(Last SAT of this school year.)

ACT: June 9: Regular registration available through May 4th.
(Last ACT of this school year.)

Test dates are also posted in the Guidance Office and the English 3 and 4 classrooms.
