Awards Assembly
Saturday,
May 12, will be FAA’s Awards Assembly for grades 9-11. A Parade will start at 8:30 and the Awards
Assembly will be from 9:30 – 11:00am in
the gym. Parents are welcome to attend.
(Friday night is the Mothers' Day Dinner for those who RSVP'd.)
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT F.A.A.'S EXCITING SUMMER PROGRAM?
We offer a six-week, non-military program that
combines academic credit with lots of fun and activities. What is your child
doing this summer? He/she can take a class to get ahead, improve computer
skills, or strengthen skills in a particular area.
We are offering a special opportunity for qualified
7-9th graders: take an honors level Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 class this summer.
Taking an honors course during the summer will enable these students to take
the most advanced math courses available by their senior year. This is a huge
plus in the college admissions process! (Older students may take Geometry or
Algebra 2 this summer also!) For more information, call the Admissions Dept.!
Graduation:
The Senior Family
Dinner will be held on Thursday night, May 17 at 6:00pm. A full day of
festivities will start Friday morning at 8:30am and end with the Commencement
at 4:00 at Calvary Chapel of Melbourne, 2955 Minton Road, West Melbourne
321-952-9673. Parents are welcome to
attend.
Accounting:
May is here and the school year is nearly over. Cadet
statements will be mailed sometime in the next 5 days. This is the last
statement you will receive before school is out. Please make sure you pay the
full statement balance amount. This is necessary so we can apply the funds
before school ends and eliminate any issues about releasing final
grades/transcripts. Call me if you have any questions at ext 30016.
Regards…Jerry Thompson, Controller
Guidance:
1. The Brevard
Seminole Club is offering a scholarship for students planning to attend
2. Course
selection forms for the 2007-2008 school year are
currently being mailed home. These forms contain required courses already noted
and available electives. Please discuss these most important course selections
with your son/daughter and contact his/her counselor (see below) with any
questions or concerns. The completed and signed forms are due back to the
Guidance Office no later than August 1st to ensure that the chosen electives
are available. Seniors are given course selection priority, then Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. Cadets cannot be scheduled
without first being "officially" enrolled in the 2007-2008 student
body.
3. Parents
of our Seniors are reminded to contact our College
Adviser, Major Ed Liles, should they receive any critical college-related
material at the cadets' home address. Much of this information is time
sensitive and may be related to a required tuition deposit, housing deposit, or
scholarship information, which may require school-provided input Please see
contact information below.
4. Parents
are reminded that second semester grades (as were the first semester
grades) are weighted in the following manner:
3rd quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade
4th quarter grade = 40% of second semester grade
Semester Exam = 20% of second semester grade
As you can see, the semester exams during the last
week of classes could mean the difference in passing or failing a course for
the year.
All teachers provide a very thorough review of exam
material just prior to exam week. Please encourage your son/daughter to take
full advantage of these reviews and to see their teachers for after-school help
should more assistance be necessary.
5. Upcoming Tests:
ACT: June
9: Regular registration available through May 4th.
(Last ACT of this school year.)
SAT: June 2:
Regular registration available through April 27th.
(Last SAT of this school year.)
Test dates are also posted in the Guidance Office and
the English 3 and 4 classrooms.

JROTC:
Air Force Junior ROTC "Outstanding Instructor
Award" for Academic Year 2006-2007
It gives me
great pleasure to announce Lt Col Ralph Gracia as the 2007 Outstanding
Instructor Award Winner...two years in a row! First, let me say his hard work
and dedication to our Florida Air Academy Air Force Junior ROTC program was a
huge success. The Outstanding Instructor Award recognizes only the top
10% of all outstanding instructors on their accomplishments and contributions
to their students, school and community above and beyond their assigned duties.
This year less than 200 of 1,906 instructors were nominated for award
consideration by their principals as compared to 545 nominations in 2006.
Again, congratulations to Colonel Gracia on this most deserved and prestigious
award...what a nice way to end the year!
Special Programs:
Please start looking forward to the summer session as
well as school year 07-08. Not only are academics and sports important
activities that need to be anticipated and planned for, so are flight lessons,
driver's education, SCUBA trips as well as martial arts and rock climbing. Talk
with your child about their interests and desires as well as the amount of time
and effort that go into each of these special programs: if they are willing to
step up to the plate, we can provide the instruction and practice that will let
them reach their potential.
Travel:
The school year ends in only a few more weeks! If
your child will be flying home, and you have not sent their travel schedule to
our Travel Manager, you must do so immediately. Failure to send this
information in a timely manner may result in additional transportation fees.
Please send your child’s itinerary, including airline and flight number, to our
Travel Manager, Mrs. Karen Frost, at kfrost@flair.com, or
