April 5, 2008

Dear Senior Parents,

We have had a very successful school year so far, and it is hard to believe the year is coming to an end! You must be very excited as the Graduation festivities near. Here is some information as to these activities.

In chronological order, the first activity is the annual Senior-Parent Dinner, scheduled for Thursday, May 15th, at 6:00 p.m. This special gathering, held in the Academy gymnasium, is exclusively for the Class of 2008 and their families. A long-standing tradition, this picnic-style event does not include lengthy speeches, and dress is casual. Following the meal, each senior introduces those guests and family members in attendance with him/her.

Following the dinner, you may sign out your son/daughter for the evening if you wish to do so, with proper checkout at Operations. However, we must insist that s/he return to campus no later than 7:30 a.m. the next morning for mandatory formation. Please note: Your child’s participation in the Graduation Ceremony is dependent upon his/her attendance at all formations and inspections preceding Commencement. These events are very important to ensure a successful Graduation ceremony.

Friday morning, May 16th, at 8:30 am the annual Year End Parade will take place. Following the parade on Falcon Field, there is an awards ceremony in the gymnasium. Then, seniors will depart campus for Calvary Chapel at 1:30 pm. Doors open at 2:00 p.m. for seating for Commencement.

That afternoon, Florida Air Academy’s 46th Anniversary Commencement Exercise will take place at Calvary Chapel, located at 2955 Minton Road, Melbourne, at 3:00 p.m. Your son/daughter must be transported to the ceremony at Calvary Chapel by F.A.A. school bus, but s/he may return with you to the school in your vehicle following the Commencement for final checkout.

Final Checkout: You and your child must check out through three final stations (1) Accounting (2) uniform turn-in, and (3) inspection with the Tactical Officer.

For your convenience, you may check out through Accounting prior to the Commencement Ceremony. The Accounting Department will be available to assist you on Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Diplomas will not be issued unless the tuition and cadet bank accounts are paid in full. Thus, only the Academy Controller, Mr. Barry Fredianelli, will issue official graduation diplomas, out of his office in Dwight Hall following final check out. As a reminder, the Academy requires a $200.00 escrow balance to cover any late charges that may be incurred. All monies remaining in your child's account will, of course, be returned to you.

I hope this information will be helpful to you and that you will be able to join us for these activities. We look forward to an enjoyable and memorable graduation weekend!

Sincerely

James Dwight, President
Florida Air Academy
