Academics is Our Top Priority!

My name is Melissa Alton, and I am privileged to serve as Florida Air Academy’s Principal.  At Florida Air Academy, helping your child reach his or her academic potential is our highest priority.  Florida Air Academy provides students with a wide range of college preparatory academic offerings including Honors, Advanced Placement, Aventa Online courses and Dual Enrollment courses.  We also offer a full program of academic assistance to those students who need extra help, including free after school teacher help sessions, private tutoring, and mandatory study halls.

100% College Admission

At Florida Air Academy, college admission is a graduation requirement. In addition to the individualized attention allowed by our low student to faculty ratio, our dedicated college counselor spends countless hours helping students achieve their postsecondary goals.  As a result, the Academy has had a 100% college acceptance rate for our Seniors for more than 30 years.

1:1 iPad Program

At Florida Air Academy, we are committed to 21st Century learning. The school has chosen the Apple iPad as the cornerstone of its 1:1 Program. iPads are utilized in the classroom to give students the creative freedom to explore learning in new and exciting ways. Since the launch of our program, parents are reporting dramatic improvements in grades and homework completion.

Our Tutoring Program offers assistance to students in all grades (6-12) and in all subjects areas.  Each student’s tutoring experience is individualized so that assistance is delivered in their area of greatest need. We employ qualified tutors, who not only have the benefit of tutoring on campus so that they can work closely with classroom teachers.  We offer several different tutoring options to ensure a good fit for each student's needs.

The AFJROTC program is an integral and vital aspect of the Florida Air Academy educational experience. The objectives of the program are to train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, provide instruction in air and space fundamentals, and to teach character and self-discipline. Our Air Force Junior ROTC program has been acknowledged by the U.S. Air Force as an “Honor Unit” for eight of the last nine years, placing us in the top 20% nationally.

English as a Second Language (ESOL)

Our ESOL program is offered during the regular academic year as a means of support and preparation for effective communication and coursework in English.  ESOL is  also offered during the summer as a five week intensive course. ESOL students have access to a language lab with an online learning program that enables our students to practice oral and written language. ESOL students take field trips that give them a chance to practice their language skills in real-life situations as well as experience American culture.

Florida Air Academy is proud to be a member of, and accredited by, both the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). We are also a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), the Association of Military Schools and Colleges (AMCSUS), and an affiliate of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
