The United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program (AFJROTC) is an integral and vital aspect of the Florida Air Academy experience. The Academy’s unit (FL-32) has been an “Honor Unit” for a number of years, which places FAA in the top 20% of all AFJROTC units across the country. We are very proud of this designation and continually strive to maintain our Honor Unit status.
AFJROTC instruction is provided to our cadets by officially authorized U.S. Air Force instructors in areas such as leadership education, aeronautics, survival, life management skills, military protocol, advanced technology and a number of other topics related to the mission of the U.S. Air Force. Instruction in drill, proper wearing of the uniform, and the development of an understanding of and belief in the cadet Honor Code are also taught in the Aerospace Science (AS) classes.
One year of Aerospace Science is a requirement for graduation. Continued enrollment is available for all students. It is also required for those interested in Service Academy appointments or consideration of ROTC college scholarships.
The AFJROTC department oversees several successful and popular organizations here on campus. These include the competition “Blue Beret” drill team, our National Championship color guard, and the honor guard.
Cadets in the 7th and 8th grades can participate in the Junior Armed Drill Team and Junior Color Guard, under the supervision and mentoring of the corresponding senior high teams. Other extra-curricular programs including the model rocket club are also sponsored by members of the AFJROTC department. All cadets, whether in JROTC or not, are encouraged to participate in these exciting and rewarding activities.
