Junior Wings

Flight Training is one of the most popular activities at Florida Air Academy.
It is so popular that we have the largest secondary school flight program in the world. We are continually updating the program to ensure that the cadets receive the best, age appropriate curriculum possible. All flight students younger than 15 and a half are in the Junior Wings Program. This program has three phases: Introduction to Flight, Flight Improvement, and Flight Proficiency.

Introduction to Flight

First-time potential pilots begin in this course. After one hour of ground instruction, the budding aviator will continue one-on-one with an instructor for another five hours in the airplane. The student will receive an overview of what general aviation is all about by flying maneuvers, practicing take-offs, and going to a distant airport.

Flight Improvement and Proficiency

These supplemental courses are designed for pilots still too young to begin Phase 1 or those seeking additional preparation in subject areas and language. Also an excellent way for students to maintain their flight proficiency and knowledge, this course includes additional flying to prepare the student for the private pilot course. At the Flight Proficiency level, a cadet may take a "stage check" that can qualify him to skip the first stage of the private pilot program.
